Changing
It’s about that time, the season is changing. Time to edit down and transition my closet from spring/summer to fall/winter. I am not the greatest at this. If it was anyone else’s closet I would whip it in shape without any difficulties. But I am a packrat at heart and I always feel like I might wear that shirt or those pants at some point or I know a client might fall in love with it like I did and take it home. I agonize over bagging up clothes that still have the tag on them from a year ago that have not been worn. My worst case scenario is my prom dress. I have had it for more years than you would think, but I cannot bear to part with it. That dress is a visual representation of my creativity in bloom, so it stays. I have been looking at what I already own and comparing it to what I actually wear. There are some favorites that need replacing, some fantastic finds that need to find new homes, and the classics that need some rehabbing. I am 5’1” all and I do mean all of my clothes are tailored (still interviewing for that perfect tailor). Removing articles from their homes is hard, especially if they have been with me for a while. I take great care in my clothes, as every woman should, so they look good and last longer. I am not rich, so buying a new wardrobe every season is out of the question. I love to consignment and thrift shop and that is where my problem lies. I love a deal. If I even think I will wear something or if a client could use it and I buy it. I am a sucker for the $2 rack! This season I have decided to clamp down on my $2 ways and make a list of items I want for the fall/winter season, so as I go through my clothes tomorrow I will have a clear vision of what I am keeping and what is going to the consignment shop!

Inspiration
Inspiration…Nina Garcia quoting Gabriel Garcia Marquez said it best “inspiration gives no warnings” (The little black book of style). Regardless of your size, age, shape, hair or skin color, embrace yourself. It is the only one you have. I was seated near an older southern belle this Sunday at church. She had such grace and poise. From her immaculately coiffed hair down to her Calvin Klein enclosed toes. I smile as I remember her thinking that I want to be like her when I grow up. I wondered who inspired her. When she was younger did she sit at her mother’s door and watch her get dressed. Who was her style inspiration? Was it her generation, culture, peers, singers, actresses or a flamboyant aunt who traveled the world?
I have an affection for style. I enjoy people’s take on fashion. Watching an article of clothing transform from something overlooked or outrageous into something epic is creativity in raw form to me. Seeing fads come and go some mature into trends some stay and become staples in wardrobes. inspiration for personal style is a special moment in time when you find the perfect pencil skirt or try on your first pair of heels. These little moments all add up to your style choice. There are many trends to interpret into your style. Find your style embrace it, love on it, feed it cute shoes and watch it grow!
